Drying time matters
EPA guidance says wet or damp areas should be dried within 24 to 48 hours when possible to help prevent mold growth. Materials that stay wet longer deserve closer evaluation.
Inspect more than the visible surface
Water can travel behind baseboards, into drywall, under flooring, inside cabinets, or through ceilings. The visible stain may not show the full wetted area.
If mold has already developed
The scope depends on how much material is affected and whether it can be cleaned and dried. Larger, hidden, or heavily damaged areas can require controlled remediation and removal of porous materials.
